Here’s How to Improve Your Sleep. Research Shows This Blanket Will Significantly Improve Your Sleep

Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night unable to get a good night’s sleep?

A weighted blanket may be your cure.

I bought one for my wife about three years ago as a birthday present and we noticed a difference the very first night and have been using it ever since.

We were pleasantly surprised just how well it worked and turns out there’s science to back up what a good night’s rest you can get from using it.

A 2020 study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine threw 60 insomniacs a weighted blanket party for four weeks later…the results were participants sleeping sounder, waking up less, and experiencing fewer insomnia woes compared to the light-blanket participants in the study.

Another study done in 2019 that appeared in the Complementary Therapies in Medicine journal, a journal that likes its medicine with a side of lavender oil please, recruited 106 healthy sleepers.

Half got the weighted blanket treatment, the other half got light blankets.

The weighted blanket participants reported better sleep and less anxiety after a month. Now, anxiety and sleep are BFFs, so it makes sense that calming your nerves might equal catching more Zs.

The scientists believe the magic behind these cuddly weights is about deep pressure stimulation, like a gentle hug for your whole body. This appears to calm your nervous system, lower stress hormones, and release feel-good chemicals, basically turning your bed into a spa.

Now, before you rush out and buy a blanket, remember, not everyone’s a fan. Some find them heavy, hot, or claustrophobic. So, start light, maybe 5-10% of your body weight, and see how it feels. And always consult your doctor if you have any health concerns.

The one that we have is made by LUXOME and is the 18lb 60×80 model.  At the time we had a queen bed and it was fine. Now that we have a king size bed it’s a bit small for two people to fit under. Fine for one.

We got the best price on Amazon and it has 564 reviews with a 4.5 out of 5 rating. and I’ll put the link to it in the show notes.

There are other brands like GravityBlanket out there you can also find through a google search if you want to compare prices.

If you  crave a sleep upgrade, a weighted blanket might be your ticket to dreamland. Just remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all sleep solution, but if you’re tired of counting sheep and waking up grumpy, this research suggests giving it a try. You might just discover that a little weight on your chest can lift a big weight off your mind.

Your move.
