Did you know the average human spends 13.6 years of their life just watching TV? That’s almost a fifth of your life staring at TV screens.
Now, if you’re reading to this and you say, Brandon, I don’t watch TV. Well, likely you might be a YouTube watcher and the average YouTube watcher is reported to spend 39 minutes a day on YouTube. That’s 14,235 minutes or 9.9 days, almost 10 full days a year watching YouTube.
Let that sink in for a second.
Do you know how much you could do at that time? You guessed it, a lot. Redirecting your time could significantly enrich your personal and professional growth and make you much more productive.
The choice is yours.
You can spend your life winnowing away, spending all your time watching YouTube or mindless videos, or you can retarget it on some productive ventures. In my opinion, I like to choose the latter. I love to spend time on productive things such as going to the gym, riding my bike, creating relationships. Not only does this make me feel good physically, but it also makes me feel sharper mentally.
And if I haven’t convinced you already to decrease your time in front of a screen, let me hit you with some science.
A study done by Johns Hopkins University found that watching an hour a day of TV decreases your brain volume by 0.5% per year. In another study done by Psychology Today on 11,000 adults, researchers found that those who said they sometimes or often watch TV over the years had a 7% greater decline in their performance on tests compared to people who rarely watch TV. If you want to maximize your efficiency, have a more productive life, give this some thought, and don’t try to bite the whole thing off at once. Just cut your time down in half.
That’ll give you hours, days, years back to your life.
Your move.
