It’s been proven that music can make you a productivity champ. Studies show that people who listen to music tend to finish their work faster and come up with better ideas than those who don’t.
But there’s a catch…
Pop music can actually hinder your thinking and make it harder to read. So while working, it’s best to avoid those catchy tunes and opt for something more common, like white noise or ambient sounds. These types of sounds have been shown to boost concentration.
There are plenty of apps and websites that offer these kinds of sounds. Two of my favorites that I play in the background all the time are on YouTube. The first one is by Cafe Music BGM channel. It actually has 3.74 million subscribers, and I love the relaxing bossa nova and jazz music for study, smooth jazz music, background music.
And another one that I love because it has the wave sounds and it always makes me smile is one by Cafe Shop Ambient Jazz called Beach Resort Cafe Ambience with wave sounds.
You’ll love that one.
I’ll put that one in the show notes as well. And to back up this advice, a study from an academic journal titled The Effect of Background Music on Work Performance in the Psychochromatic Bulletin Review. And this study found that listening to background music can improve work performance on tasks that require sustained tension.
Researchers found that participants who listened to music while working on a task made fewer errors and completed the task faster than those who did not listen to music. The researchers believe that music can help to improve focus and attention by blocking out distractions and providing a positive mood boost.
Turn on some music if you don’t already and boost your productivity.
Your move.
