Moving changes your state, gets your blood flowing around your body, can snap you out of that daydream and helps stir creative thoughts.
It’s good for you and the perfect tonic to stress induced, desk-bound lives.
Here’s 3 ways to make sure you move:
- Set the timer on your watch.
- Walk when you take on the phone or have a meeting. Meetings don’t have to be sitting at a deck. Best meetings I’ve ever had have been walking. Tony Subblime CEO of Medium showed me this about twelve years ago and I’ve adopted it since.
- Drink at least a glass of water an hour. You’ll have to get up and go to the bathroom, that counts as moving!
Make Moving non-negotiable every 50 minutes.
Too often we find ourselves saying just 5 more minutes only to find ourselves in the same seat an hour later.
Don’t take my word for it, science supports this.
A meta analysis of on moving and taking breaks titled “Give me a break!” published in the National Library of Medicine reported, I quote:
A meta-regression showed that the longer the break, the greater the boost was on performance. Overall, the data support the role of micro-breaks for well-being, while for performance, recovering from highly depleting tasks may need more than 10-minute breaks.
Put one or two of these break reminders into action and see how much more productive and as importantly how much better you feel every day.
Your move.
